BREAKFAST WITH ANTONIO ÁLVAREZ BARTHE, THE SPANISH AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
This morning, Lupicinio International Law Firm, together with the Club of Exporters and Investors, organized a breakfast to explain the investment situation in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The talk was led by Antonio Álvarez Barthe, Spain’s Ambassador of the UAE.
Mr. Álvarez Barthe revealed the great opportunity for Spanish companies to invest in the country due to several factors, such as its economic model and bilateral relationship with Spain.
During the presentation, Mr. Álvarez Barthe discussed how the UAE has a very diversified economy. The country has a very favourable business environment for foreign investment. Specifically, the sectors that offer the best business opportunities in this market are: infrastructure, health, energy, the environment and tourism.
The Ambassador highlighted the close and long-standing bilateral relations that Spain has with the country of the Persian Gulf. In fact, the Spanish embassy in the UAE has been in operation since 1977. Currently the Spanish colony is the largest in Asia, and the process for obtaining residence in the country is easier nowadays. Additionally, with regards to business, there are currently more than 200 Spanish companies operating there.
In order to put the global importance of the UAE into context, the Ambassador pointed out that once the Croatian embassy opens next year, Abu Dhabi will be the fifth city in the world with the highest number of embassies, alongside Washington, Beijing, Moscow and New Delhi.
