The European Union has taken the unprecedented step of imposing sanctions against Israeli settlers in response to acts of violence. The measures, the first of their kind, target specific individuals and organisations responsible for serious human rights violations against Palestinians.
Targeting the sanctions
Sanctions were imposed on four individuals and two organisations, all identified as responsible for acts of violence. These measures were taken with a view to promoting accountability and ensuring justice in the midst of conflict.
Specific restrictions
The sanctions include a travel ban and a freezing of the assets of the individuals concerned on EU territory. These measures are in addition to the recent restrictions against Hamas announced only a week ago.
