We are pleased to share an article published by the Antitrust Alliance (ATA) on the recent decision of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA) concerning access to the highest tier of professional ice hockey in Finland. Following concerns over a system that gave participating clubs significant control over the entry of new competitors, the League introduced major reforms to ensure more open and merit-based access. The case illustrates the application of the principles established by the CJEU in the Superleague, which require access to sporting competitions to be governed by transparent, objective and non-discriminatory criteria.
