North America

North America is the region made up of the USA, Canada and Mexico, whose economies are among the largest in the world. These three countries formed NAFTA in 1994 (North America Free Trade Agreement) to create a free trade zone across their borders.

The enormous economic potential of this region has led to a strong relationship between North America and the European Union. In the summer of 2013 negotiations took place over a TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership). The objective of the negotiations was the removal of trade barriers (tariffs, unnecessary regulations, investment restrictions etc.) in a wide range of economic sectors in order to simplify trade between the USA and the EU. Additionally, it aims to encourage cross-investment by companies in both regions.
