Lawyer and Attorney at Law from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina Postgraduate in Negotiation at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA). Energy Risk Professional ERP® certified by the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) based in New York. Certified in Hydrocarbon Geology by the University of Texas, USA. She has completed numerous advanced training courses, including programmes in finance, business administration, contracts and taxation systems in the hydrocarbon industry, M&A, project evaluation, energy policy and international taxation.

Experience

Along 25 years, Marina Paradela has held several management positions in leading energy companies, responsible for the legal and commercial aspects of countless cross-border operations and transactions, with special focus on Latin America, Europe, North Africa and Southeast Asia. She has developed recognized competencies in analysis of energy policies, new business strategy, M&A, asset valuation and acquisition, Due Diligence and risk assessment, contract drafting and negotiation, Joint Ventures and corporate structures in multiple jurisdictions, with extensive experience in leadership and coordination of multidisciplinary and multicultural teams along complex processes.

Since 2016 Marina is an independent consultant and has collaborated in exploration and production projects in West Africa, Middle East and South-East Asia, renewable energies in Latin America, engineering for a Combined Cycle Plant, Artificial Intelligence (AI) applied to refineries, transference of technology, among others. She participates in international projects for the development of good practice standards in the extractive industries, through the comparative analysis of mining and hydrocarbon regulations, reserves evaluation systems and policies for the security of supply of strategic minerals.

Marina began her career in Argentina as legal adviser in TEXACO Argentina and later as Head of Contracts for New Business in the REPSOL group. She took active part in the expansion of the company in Latin America, in the context of the liberalization of the energy markets, including opportunities in Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia, both in exploration, production and transportation of hydrocarbons and in electricity generation and distribution. She was part of the REPSOL team in ATLANTIC LNG (Trinidad Tobago), one of the largest integrated LNG projects in the world, responsible for the negotiation of the expansion contract with the Government of Trinidad Tobago and the time charter parties with ship-owners and financial entities for the construction and chartering of LNG tankers in Spain and South Korea.

When joining CEPSA, Marina was responsible of creating the Legal Department at the Exploration and Production division and served as its director for more than 12 years, developing a team of 15 in-house lawyers in Madrid and Bogota. She was then appointed Commercial Manager for New Business of CEPSA, as part of the multidisciplinary team in charge of implementing a growth strategic plan that resulted in the acquisition of an important portfolio of exploration and production areas offshore Brazil, Suriname and Liberia.

Merits

In 2016 she was a finalist for the Gold Award in the Corporate Lawyer category awarded by Iberian Lawyer in recognition of excellence in the practice of law in Spain and Portugal.

She has been translator and collaborator in the writing of the book ‘Los Sistemas de Distribución Comercial’ by Dr. Osvaldo Marzorati (ASTREA Buenos Aires, 1990 1st ed., 1995 2nd ed.). She has recently published the article ‘Mercado de Energías Renovables en Argentina dos años después: balance y perspectivas’ (Cuaderno de Energía Nº 54, Club Español de la Energía-Enerclub, Madrid, February 2018).

She is a member of the Model Contracts Committee of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) and a contributor to the drafting team of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP)’.
