Marco de Benito is regularly ranked among the most prominent arbitration practitioners in Spain. He has participated in arbitrations in the financial, corporate, energy and infrastructure sectors, in venues such as London, Paris, Geneva, Milan, Madrid or Miami, under Spanish, Italian and Austrian law, as well as under general principles of law and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
Marco’s professional activity is based on university teaching and research. A tenured Associate Professor, he holds the Jean Monnet Chair in European Civil Procedure and the Jean Monnet Module in European Private Law at IE University. He teaches comparative civil procedure, international arbitration, contracts and legal history. He has taught at universities around the world, including Harvard, Bologna, Maastricht and Peking.
Marco is the author of numerous monographs and articles, including The History of Law in Europe and Colloquies on European Civil Procedure. He is also co-editor-in-chief of Arbitraje, the leading academic journal on arbitration in Spanish.
He is a member of the International Association of Procedural Law and the ICC Institute of World Business Law, and a corresponding member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation.
