{"id":16224,"date":"2024-01-22T13:39:50","date_gmt":"2024-01-22T12:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lupicinio.com\/?p=16224"},"modified":"2024-02-28T12:35:02","modified_gmt":"2024-02-28T11:35:02","slug":"alert-eu-council-targeted-sanctions-on-hamas-and-palestinian-islamic-jihad-pij-actions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lupicinio.com\/en\/alert-eu-council-targeted-sanctions-on-hamas-and-palestinian-islamic-jihad-pij-actions\/","title":{"rendered":"Alert EU Council: targeted sanctions on Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) actions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad: EU Council establishes dedicated sanctions framework and lists six individuals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Council established a dedicated framework of restrictive measures that will allow the European Union to hold accountable any individual or entity who\u00a0<strong>supports, facilitates or enables violent actions by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Decision was taken in view of the gravity of the\u00a0<strong>recent attacks against Israel<\/strong>\u00a0and the need to fight against violent actions that threaten peace and international security, and\u00a0<strong>aims at preventing such violent actions<\/strong>\u00a0by Hamas and PIJ in the future. The new regime also complements the restrictive measures previously adopted against Hamas and the PIJ.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Under the new regime, the EU may\u00a0<strong>target those who support, materially or financially<\/strong>, Hamas or the PIJ. It may also target those who\u00a0<strong>participate in the planning, preparation or enabling of violent actions<\/strong>\u00a0by Hamas or the PIJ.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, for the first time, the EU will also be able to target\u00a0<strong>persons or entities providing support to those facilitating or enabling violent action by Hamas and the PIJ<\/strong>; in other words, the sponsors of those who sponsor the two terrorist organizations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Council also decided to list\u00a0<strong>six individuals<\/strong>\u00a0of different nationalities responsible for providing financial support to Hamas. Those listed under the sanction\u2019s regime are subject to an\u00a0<strong>asset freeze<\/strong>. The provision of funds or economic resources, directly or indirectly, to them or for their benefit is\u00a0<strong>prohibited<\/strong>.
